Discussion: How to talk about Feminism

You are invited to our next discussion:

Weds 24th Oct @ 8:30pm – 10:00pm
The Friends Meeting House, 12 Jesus Lane, CB5 8BA

FREE & Fully Accessible Venue

This is a great starting point from one of our new facilitators: ”What I want to discuss, and find very interesting, is the issue of how to discuss feminism in a normal context. We have obviously moved on in many ways from the backlash to the second wave of supposed ‘bra-burners’, but I definitely think there is still demonisation of feminists everywhere. Though we can’t as easily tackle the media (unfortunately), working out what preconceptions our peers still have, and ways to demonstrate feminism not only as accessible but important for everyone.”

Should be a lively one- come along!

Discussion: Feminism & Romantic Relationships

  • When: 8:00pm Weds 26th September
  • Where: Friends Meeting House, 12 Jesus Lane, CB5 8BA
Let’s have a meeting next week where we talk about feminism and romantic relationships. We can have a chat about feminism IN romantic relationships, or the lack of it, and and issues that have arisen for any of us when it comes to feminism and our relationships. We can chat about romantic relationships where sexism was a problem, and about amazing feminist romantic relationships. …
Please do feel free to come along and join in – everyone probably has SOME experience of feminism arising in the context of a romantic relationship, or at least has an opinion on the subject. I’m a big fan of feminism in romantic relationships, I’m looking forward to hearing everybody else’s experiences.

Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre Fundraising Opportunities

Dear women,

Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre supports women and girls who have survived or are currently experiencing rape or childhood sexual abuse. We offer a telephone helpline service and face-to-face counselling.

We need to raise £30k to keep our services running for the next 12 months.
We are looking for female fundraising volunteers who can help us by:

·         Organising fundraising events (band nights, comedy nights, cake sales…)
·         Taking part in sponsored events (eg running a marathon, sponsored cycle ride)
·         Letter writing to local businesses requesting support
·         … or any other ideas you have to raise money for us!

If you are interested and think you can help, you are warmly invited to come along to a meeting on Weds 15th August 7pm at the Women’s Resources Centre, Hooper St.

The Women’s Resources Centre is an accessible venue with a free car park. Directions here: http://www.cwrc.org.uk/index.php?page=60

If you live in Cambridgeshire UK and you cannot make this meeting but would like to get involved, there will be more info here about following meetings and on our Nabble page where you can sign up to our mailing list and get emails about events etc.

Students! We will be setting up a separate student fundraising group starting this October – if you would like to join please get in touch to let us know you’re interested!

Worthless Guy Stuff part 2

Well here we go again everyone, I am so sick of blokes just going on about their trifling man paraphernalia and never letting me get a word in edgeways. Can’t they keep all their pointless dude-hobbies to themselves instead of gossiping about that shit all day like old men? God! Like WTF?! This is the kind of crap I’m talking about:

Gordon Ramsey having a complete hissy fit over some Quiches and swearing like an old trollope [which is really unattractive] and I’m like calm down princess!

Worthless Guy Stuff

O-M-to-the-G everyone I am so sick of men. I mean, God! All they do is pointless guy stuff all day in guy world and natter about trivial shit that’s not even important and their stupid jobs. I can’t even stand it anymore you know? It’s like, hey- all this man crap you keep going on about is really boring and no one cares. It’s especially annoying when I’m trying to watch sports and my boyfriend is sitting there on the sofa going on about some rubbish he read in a magazine full of dresses. Like this kind of shit:

Christian Dior twatting about with some dresses and shit, probably taking all day in the dressing room and then being like ‘does this make me look fat?’

Freebies

Patriarchy says: Little girlies who want big grown up people-jobs instead of women’s work, will only succeed in downgrading people-work into women’s work. As such they will have to take the wage offered for women’s work. Which is nothing.

FIGHT ERASURE

Unknown Women are Unknown Heroines. FIGHT ERASURE is a blog project to bring to light and attention the many erased and ignored women re[sisters] from around the world and from the past. Its purpose is to prevent the erasure of their thoughts and great deeds from our history and understanding of ourselves as women resisting patriarchy.

To add a woman to the project [and/or to history…], copy and paste the above text, title the post FIGHT ERASURE and provide some introductory informantion, links, pictures, articles, film, recording or quotes about her.

If you have more information about any of the women featured in the project, please add what you know in the comments, and pass it on…

Why?
